The Big Apple is best known for having some of the most incredible shopping in the world, so it was only a matter of time before a new, innovative retail destination broke ground.
Set to open in 2018, the Empire Outlets are New York City’s first and only outlet destination. The marketplace will be located at the base of Staten Island’s St. George Ferry Terminal, which offers a free, easy ferry ride from Manhattan. The quick trip’s beautiful views give over 70,000 daily riders an exciting experience as they travel over to Staten Island. This new shopping spot is expected to be a huge tourist attraction, bringing over 7 million visitors each year.
The Empire Outlets will include approximately 100 retail stores, a broad spectrum of waterfront dining options, and a luxurious 190-room LEED-certified boutique hotel complete with a rooftop lounge.
The new development is a big deal for New York City, given it’s the first of its kind in the five boroughs. Since outlets are becoming a favorite of American shoppers, traditional malls are disappearing and lifestyle complexes – such as the Empire Outlets – are popping up in their place, making a presence here an absolute must for top retail brands.
The outlets are expected to bring lots of economic traffic to Staten Island, with stores such as Nordstrom, Columbia, and Guess joining the list of featured destinations. It helps that Empire Outlets’ MRKTPL (Marketplace) artisanal food market will be aimed towards the “foodie” generation, with 40,000 sq. ft. of space dedicated to diverse and enticing dining experiences. Its location is ideal, overlooking the New York Harbor and within view of stunning lower Manhattan. With Empire Outlets, thousands of New Yorkers and tourists alike will flock to Staten Island excited, and with wallets in hand.
